Agenda

1) Review the Legislative Branch by creating an Infographic about the Legislative Branch

🎯 Assignment: Create a Canva Infographic – "Understanding the Legislative Branch"

Your Goal:
Design a visually appealing and informative infographic using Canva that teaches someone the key facts about the U.S. Legislative Branch. Think of this as a mini-poster you might see in a classroom, library, or on social media to help others learn.

The primary purpose of an infographic is to present information in a visually appealing and easily digestible format, using images, charts, and graphs to make complex data and ideas more accessible to a wider audience

📝 What to Include in Your Infographic

Your infographic must clearly and creatively explain the following — look back at your reading handout “First Branch - Legislative” or research the information online.

  1. Structure of Congress

    • Define bicameral legislature

    • Describe the two chambers: House of Representatives and Senate

  2. Membership Requirements

    • Age, citizenship, and residency for both House and Senate

  3. Powers of Congress

    • Expressed powers (list at least 4 examples)

    • Implied powers and the Necessary and Proper Clause (explain what this means and give an example)

  4. Law-making Process

    • Explain the basic steps of how a bill becomes a law (you can use icons, arrows, or a flowchart)

  5. Unique Roles

    • One unique responsibility for each chamber (e.g., starting tax bills in the House, approving treaties in the Senate)

  6. Leadership Roles

    • Include information about the leadership in each house of congress.

  7. Visual Appeal

    • Use clear sections, images, colors, icons, and Canva tools to make your infographic eye-catching and easy to understand.
